What is this Middle School Program? We are offering a new Middle School Youth Program both combined with four other parishes in Norwalk as well as here at St. Jerome. For eight months, we will have two sessions each month. One will be held at All Saints will all the other Middle School children from the parishes of St. Matthew, St. Philip, and St. Thomas. The second session will be held at St. Jerome with just our group. This program will be educational, community building, and service related. We are hoping to touch on some of the hot topics that our middle schoolers face in this busy and fast world.
What do I register my Middle School Child for? Middle School students must register for the Middle School Youth group. This is their religious ed/community building program. If your child does not attend the middle school program, they cannot attend Confirmation prep (when it is offered) as they will not have the foundation of our faith to build upon. The Middle School Program is also for those that will receive the sacrament this year. The program is built to bolster their faith and friendships before they head to high school.
When will my child make Confirmation? After a meeting of the four Norwalk pastors, it has been decided that Confirmation will be made no earlier than the fall of 8th grade at St. Jerome. Confirmation Prep classes will only take place for 7th graders. If we do not have 30 children enrolled for the classes, we will hold that group for a year and combine it with the group behind them. Preparation will only be given if we have a minimum of 30 students to prepare. The Bishop requires a minimum of 30 candidates to come to a parish for the sacrament of Confirmation. We would like to have our students receive the sacrament at St. Jerome.
What about the tuition? The Middle School Program tuition is $100 each year. That should be paid at the time of registration. Once we have reached enough students (minimum of 30) to run a Confirmation Prep group, we will notify families via email and the parish newsletter. At that time an additional fee of $100 for the sacrament will be collected.
